ISHGD2015 Newsletter ~ Issue Two - 10 June

Join us after the day’s sessions to unwind and connect with your colleagues in a social setting. Your Symposium registration includes tickets to both events! Bringing your spouse, a family member or a friend? Invite them along — be sure to buy them a ticket so that they can enjoy these opportunities as well!

  • RECEPTION ON THE TERRACE | Monday, 22 June – 6pm : Come as you are, enjoy the sun, a cocktail or two, live music and network with your colleagues on the pool terrace. A perfect opportunity to connect with old colleagues and meet new ones. There will be a light snack provided before you head out for dinner.
  • OUR VANCOUVER: A MULTI-CULTURAL EXPERIENCE | Tuesday, 23 June – 6:15pm : Experience Vancouver through our multicultural lens. Vancouver is a great cosmopolitan city and people from all over the world now call Vancouver home. This dinner event will include music and dance from four of the city’s major culture groups. (Dress code: Semi-formal)

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you already know that you won’t be able to attend one of these events, please send an email to This will help with our final preparations - PLEASE LET US KNOW BY 16 JUNE.

We wanted to give you a heads up on the lunch program during the Symposium for Tuesday and Wednesday. You will each receive a pre-loaded visa card that you can use to pay for your own lunch. This gives you the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the beautiful (hopefully!) weather and eat at a number of local establishments – look for a list of suggestions and a map in your delegate bag. For those of you attending a technical tour, boxed lunches will be provided.

We’ve partnered with TransLink, who have kindly provided us a limited number of transit passes:

  • One Day Pass – good for all modes of transit in Vancouver for a 24 hour period. Take the Skytrain or the bus to get to and from the sights in and around the city.
  • Two Zone Pass – good for one trip to another fare zone. It’s most useful for getting to the airport. The airport might be called Vancouver International Airport, but it’s actually in Richmond. The “Canada Line” will bring you right inside YVR – be sure to get on a south-bound train headed to “YVR”, not “Brighouse”.

Passes will be available at the registration desk on a first-come first-served basis. Be sure to ask if you think you could use one of these types of passes.

About TransLink: TransLink is Metro Vancouver's regional transportation authority, responsible for regional transit, cycling and commuting options as well as Intelligent Transportation System programs. They also share responsibility for the Major Road Network (MRN) and regional cycling with municipalities in Metro Vancouver.
