Technical Papers Schedule:

  • January 2014: Issue Call for Abstracts, Posters, Country Reports, Technical Exhibits (optional) - COMPLETE
  • April 30, 2014: Authors submit abstracts - COMPLETE
  • Summer 2014: Steering Committee invites authors
  • Fall 2014: Authors submit draft papers; Steering Committee completes reviews
  • January 2015: Issue Final announcement with program and registration materials
  • Spring 2015: Authors submit final, camera-ready manuscripts

The 2015 Symposium Steering Committee invites interested authors to submit abstracts on research, policy developments and innovative practices related to the field of geometric design. The topic of your abstract must be related to either urban or rural roadway geometric design research or practice, which may include but is not limited to the following topics:

  • Access Management
  • Accommodating all Users: Bicyclists, Disabled, Pedestrians or Vulnerable Users
  • Accommodating/Incorporating all (motor) vehicles: Buses, Light Rail, RVs, Trucks
  • Active Traffic Management Impacts on Design
  • Alignment and/or Cross Section
  • Design consistency
  • Driveways
  • Design Effects on Operations and Safety
  • Human Factors Consideration in Design
  • Interchanges and Freeways
  • Intersections: Traditional, Roundabouts, Innovative
  • Performance Based Design
  • Public and Stakeholder Involvement
  • Roadside Safety Design
  • Safety Management Supporting Road Design
  • Sight Distance
  • Simulation and Visualization
  • Speed and Speed Management
  • Sustainable Design
  • Toll Facilities
  • Urban Street Design
  • Work Zone Design

The Symposium presentation modes include:

+ Poster: Show your project or concept with pictures, a model, or computer graphics.
+ Podium: Write and present a paper, based on a concept or project. Note that some papers will be selected
for poster sessions.
+ Workshop: Present a hands-on session related to an aspect of geometric design.


Instructions on submitting an abstract for the Symposium

  • Submit abstracts by April 30, 2014 as PDF document
     
  • Email abstracts to: dmcdonald@hanson-inc.com with the subject line: 2015 ISHGD Surname
     
  • Each submitted abstract must be in English, must fit on one page, and must include:
    • Name | Address | Phone Number | Email for corresponding author
    • General topic of the abstract (example: “Transit Facilities”)
    • Indicate whether this abstract is for a Project or a Technical/Research topic
    • Abstract is not to exceed 250 words
    • Name your abstract file as follows: 2015 ISHGD Surname - one or two words describing the topic
      • Example: "2015 ISHGD Smith - transit facilities"
